"Called to Worship"

1 Samuel 16:4-5 (The Msg)
4 Samuel did what God told him. When he arrived at Bethlehem, the town fathers greeted him, but apprehensively. "Is there something wrong?" 5 "Nothing's wrong. I've come to sacrifice this heifer and lead you in the worship of God. Prepare yourselves, be consecrated, and join me in worship." He made sure Jesse and his sons were also consecrated and called to worship."
Yesterday, we left Samuel frustrated and, while obedient, questioning. When he got to Bethlehem, the first question from the leaders of the town was "What's wrong? is God upset?" Just a side note: if all you ever do is bring the judgement of God, it is time to re-evaluate what messages you are sending. selah... Samuel alleviates their fears and says, "no listen, God called me to lead you in worship." Then there is a curious phrasing: "He made sure Jesse and his sons were also consecrated and called to worship." (v.5) in the King James it reads: "And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice." In the old testament, before they could worship or sacrifice anything to God, they had to make sure they were ritually consecrated/sanctified and ready to be in the presence of God lest their offering and possibly their lives be counted unclean. When Jesus died on the cross, He became our sanctification. 1 Corinthians 6:11 says:
And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
the great part of that is now instead of going through the process of cleanliness, Jesus became our cleanliness and allowed us to enter into worship freely. We no longer have to approach God, Jesus, or the Holy Spirit through the filter of ritual, religion, or wrote devotion. Instead, we can come to our heavenly father in worship in everything we do! We can provide Him with all the worship, love, and devotion He deserves! Selah. Worship, Worship is a really old word. It's kind of a funny word. It means "value," the root words of worship are "worth" and "ship." So when we worship God we are assigning value to Him. We are placing all our wants and desires down at his feet. Its not simply the words we sing on Sunday, or Wednesday, its not simply feeding the poor, or the needy, but it is also the attitudes and thoughts, our very motives! Did you notice that Samuel called Jesse's family to worship and that David was not among them? David doesn't show up until verse 8 or 9, because "he was out tending sheep." What is amazing to me is how Samuel called Jesse's family to worship and sacrifice. David, one of the greatest men of the bible, arguably THE greatest, was a direct forefather of Jesus Himself (through Mary and Joseph). So when we are adopted into Jesus' family through belief and confession (Romans 10:9-10) we are also adopted into the family of Jesse. Selah We too are called to worship, my question today is do you worship holistically? Do you worship with your words, your deeds, your thoughts, and emotions? Or do you simply view worship as singing songs during the corporate gathering.

You were called to worship God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. As God sanctifies you, I hope you'll choose to worship Him fully
