An Analyst's view of Luke pt. 3

Luke 1:21-38
And the people waited for Zacharias, and marveled that he lingered so long in the temple. 22 But when he came out, he could not speak to them; and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple, for he beckoned to them and remained speechless. 23 So it was, as soon as the days of his service were completed, that he departed to his own house. 24 Now after those days his wife Elizabeth conceived; and she hid herself five months, saying, 25 “Thus the Lord has dealt with me, in the days when He looked on me, to take away my reproach among people.” Christ’s Birth Announced to Mary 26 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!”[a] 29 But when she saw him,[b] she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. 30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” 34 Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” 35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing will be impossible.” 38 Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.
This rather long exposition tells the story of 2 cousins. They were pregnant, although neither understood fully who their children would become, both had some knowledge ahead of time of the greatness in store for their progeny.

Pregnancy messes with your body

My wife is currently expecting our second child. Her body is totally messed up. Her hormones are causing her to crave food of all varieties, making her sleepy all the time, and making her memory and balance go haywire. What is interesting to me is that pregnancy permanently changes the woman. The body is permanently altered. This process is similar to revelation. When God gives you a picture of what your life is like it becomes like a child being birthed. When you get that picture of you, God, and your life together, it grows and changes you. permanently. Or at least it is supposed to. I think more often than not, we get the vision and revelation of God, we flip out because "we aren't ready," or "we don't know what it will be like," or we are just plain afraid. Much like a pregnant mother, especially one who does not want the pregnancy because it is not convenient, or its not the right time, or we have not spent enough time doing what we want to do. Here's the interesting thing, no matter how much we want or don't want to allow "pregnancy" to affect us, it does. It changes us and there's nothing we can do about it, except abort it. But in aborting the revelation, we lose not only a piece of ourselves, but the revelation. Either way, our lives are altered forever. In the scripture, we see Elizabeth and Mary both dealing with Pregnancy. Both deal with the same thing. Where Elizabeth's husband wanted to abort the vision, Elizabeth and Mary accept what God said and allowed their lives to be changed, transformed, and renewed.

Pregnancy is messy, but the only possible way for birth

If you have ever had a child, you know that it is not a clean process. There are so many things that get in the way that are messy. The same could be said for revelation. Sometimes, living into the vision and seeing it birth in you creates messes. They are by no means intentional. You don't purposely cause problems in relationships with others. You don't try to cause problems with your family and friends. But sometimes it just happens as a by-product of the revelation. When you become a parent, everything changes, so too, does your life with revelation. In order to cause change in your life, your atmosphere must change. If your atmosphere changes, life changes, everything changes. Naturally, some of the people in your environment cannot continue to live in that environment. Things must change in your relationship, its messy, but it must happen in order to birth your revelation. Revelation growth and birthing are messy, but necessary to see the fruition of all God has for your life.
